Hashimoto's Thyroid And Autoimmune.

Image
The #1 cause of low thyroid or hypothyroid in the United States. The #1 cause is something called Hashimoto's thyroiditis or autoimmune thyroid. It's and autoimmune condition and it means that your immune system is attacking your thyroid. An autoimmune condition is where your immune system is attacking a part of your body, and in your case, it is most likely attacking your thyroid gland. Remember, your thyroid controls your body's metabolism. ALL OF IT! Hashimoto's thyroiditis (Aka. autoimmune thyroid) is the #1 cause of low thyroid in the U.S. Your immune system is attacking your thyroid, and it is killing it. You don't have just a "thyroid" problem, you have an immune problem! Unfortunately, thyroid hormones do  nothing  for this autoimmune attack. You will continue to lose more and more of your thyroid by taking medications It is a slow, progressive, downward slide. So the problem isn't just your thyroid: it is your immune system. Yo...

Why You Need Quality Supplements.

Image
“Can I get all the nutrients I need from food?” a patient will occasionally ask. On the surface, this makes sense. After all, if you are eating a whole, fresh, unprocessed foods diet, shouldn’t you be able to get an abundant supply of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other nutrients? Unfortunately, things aren’t that easy. Even with a perfect diet, the combination of many things –including our depleted soils, the storage and transportation of our food, genetic alterations of traditional heirloom species, and the increased stress and nutritional demands resulting from a toxic environment – make it impossible for us to get the vitamins and minerals we need solely from the foods we eat 1 . Simply put, the evidence shows we cannot get away from the need for nutritional supplements 2 . Doctors used to think you got all your vitamins and minerals from food. Any extra nutrients were excreted, or worse, became toxic. But the tide is shifting. Doctors now prescribe ...

10 Signs You May Have a Parasite

Image
Having a parasite can be a scary thought. However, you are not alone — you’d be shocked at how often intestinal parasites are to blame for ongoing health issues, from digestive symptoms , to insomnia, to skin issues, and more. The idea that parasites only exist in underdeveloped countries is a myth. Truth be told, I see them in the majority of patients I treat, particularly my thyroid and autoimmune patients. And all too often these patients have tested negative for parasites using standard testing, yet come up positive on functional medicine tests, like live blood analysis. 10 Signs You May Have a Parasite Unexplained constipation, diarrhea, gas, or other symptoms of IBS Trouble falling asleep or wake up multiple times during the night Skin irritation or unexplained rash, hives, rosacea, or eczema Grinding your teeth in your sleep Pain or aching in your muscles or joints Fatigue, exhaustion, depression, or frequent feeling of apathy Never feeling s...

These 5 'Life Skills' Are Tied to Health Benefits

Image
By  Cari Nierenberg, Live Science Contributor  |   April 10, 2017 06:33pm ET There's a good reason for older adults to be conscientious and  optimistic , a new study from England suggests. Researchers found that men and women ages 52 and older who had higher scores on measures of five "life skills" — conscientiousness, control, determination (i.e., persistence), emotional stability and optimism — experience a broad range of health benefits and positive outcomes later in life, compared with older adults who had lower scores. This finding held true even after the researchers took into account people's socioeconomic background, education and cognitive abilities. These "life skills" include personal characteristics and capabilities thought to increase a person's chance of success and well-being in life, according to the study, which was published online today (April 10) in the journal Proceedings of the National Aca...

10 Signs You Have Candida Overgrowth

Image
Yeast overgrowth, often referred to as Candida, is one of the most common conditions I see in my clinic, especially among my autoimmune patients. I’ve seen thousands of patients suffer from digestive issues, fatigue, brain fog, recurring fungal infections, skin problems, mood swings, and more, all caused by Candida overgrowth! I have also seen the incredible transformation that they experience by beating their yeast. I’ve witnessed energy and vitality return, mental clarity restored, and chronic symptoms fade away. You might be wondering, “What on earth is Candida?” Candida is a fungus, which is a form of yeast, a very small amount of which lives in your mouth and intestines. Its job is to aid with digestion and nutrient absorption, but when it is overproduced it breaks down the wall of the intestine and penetrates the bloodstream, releasing toxic byproducts into your body and causing leaky gut. This can lead to many different health problems ranging from digestive issues to de...
